One of the things I’ve noticed over the years is that almost everyone, myself included, has a tendency to avoid or dodge solutions to problems, especially if those solutions require lots of hard work, lots of resources, and lots of discipline (the most difficult of all). Instead of implementing a solution that will fix a problem, we tend to indulge in workarounds or move the goalposts, or, at the most basic level, stick on another piece of duct tape or brush on another layer of paint.
Don’t dodge the solution, no matter how tough it is to implement, since the benefits of fixing the problem go way beyond just fixing the problem: a good solution not only fixes the problem, it also helps ensure the problem doesn’t happen again and it builds up the personal and/or corporate toolkit to tackle fresh problems in the future.
